What Debts Are Discharged In Chapter 7 Bankruptcy?

If you’re filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy you need to know which debts will be wiped out.  If you file your case without knowing for sure, you may be in for a surprise later on.

Here is a general list of debts that can be discharged in your Chapter 7 bankruptcy case:

  • Personal loans
  • Credit cards
  • Repossession deficiencies
  • Medical, dental and hospital bills
  • Civil money judgments
  • Business debts that you’ve guaranteed
  • Leases
  • Negligence claims
  • Tax debts that over 3 years old (assuming you filed your tax returns on time and that they were not audited within the past 240 days)
